Strength Training

The general misconception is that strength training is only for athletes or the weekend warrior. In fact, when done safely, strength training is for everyone. Whether you’re a stay at home mom, a senior citizen, a successful businessperson or recently released from physical therapy rehabilitation, increasing muscle strength and joint stability is imperative to overall wellness.

After the age of 30, the average person loses 15 pounds of muscle a year, but within 2 months of exercising, 40% of that can be regained.

At ExerciseByDesign we use the most technologically advanced fitness equipment built by MedX Corporation which is designed according to proper muscle and joint function. Our clients can receive the benefits of a full body workout in only 20 minutes 2X a week.

The protocol we use is a slow and controlled high intensity movement which brings the muscle to momentary fatigue. This protocol forces the muscles to work harder with as much as a 50-100% greater strength gain than traditional lifting. The client will perform just a few repetitions with each rep lasting approximately 20 seconds. This causes a series of metabolic changes that grow the muscles, strengthen the bones, burn more fat and increase the muscles’ ability to utilize oxygen from the blood.

Lumbar Rehab

80% of all Americans will experience a back problem at some time in their lives, mostly as a result of weakened and deconditioned muscles in the low back. The answer to this problem seems relatively easy and that is to strengthen the low back. The problem is trying to isolate the back muscles without using other larger muscle groups such as the hamstrings and gluteus.

Effectively eliminating all other muscle groups is where our patented MedX Core Lumbar Strength Machine comes in. Only the Core Lumbar Strength features a patented and effective pelvic restraint system that keeps gluteus and hamstring muscles from interfering with the targeted spinal exercise area. Qiqong

Qiqong (pronounced chee kung) is a Chinese practice dating back several thousand years. Its healing effect is based on the same principles as acupuncture. Each exercise works on a particular meridian or “energy pathway” in the body.

Our classes consist of exercises that combine continuous static stretching, deep breathing and visualization with multiplanar movements designed to stabilize the core. The harmonious movements bring body, mind and spirit into balance, teaching body awareness, muscle control and mental focus. It improves blood circulation, deepens breathing, enhances the body’s defenses and supplies energy. It fortifies ligaments, increases joint flexibility and improves balance.
